Euthanasia

When it’s time to say goodbye, give the GIFT of eternal PEACE

euthanasia

Euthanasia comes from the Greek...

euthanasia

It literally means “Good Death”. Death is inevitable. Our pets do not have the abilities to reason through what they are experiencing or feeling. For example, they don’t understand that they have arthritis. They can’t reason why they have pain in their joints, can’t get up, and can’t do the things they want to do. This is very stressful and scary for them. Additionally, they don’t know when things are going to end. With humans we can reason and push through our illnesses even terminal ones. We can understand that we are dying and what we are feeling is part of the process; animals can’t.

We will all reach a point where nothing left can be done, there is no fix, and quality of life for our pet will be poor. Our pets will be too sick for them to recover and they will be in the dying process. We know that this process is RARELY swift or peaceful. It can linger for days, weeks, and they suffer through it. Our pets are programmed to keep going until their body gives out one day, until then they struggle.

“I just wish they would go in their sleep.” We all want this because we don’t want to be the one to make that choice. The fact is, they would eventually die on their own. In their sleep is not always guaranteed. We have to remember that they live on survival instinct. Their body is telling them to keep going until it gives out. This isn’t without suffering both in pain, malaise (sick feeling you get) and anxiety. Mother Nature is indifferent when it comes to life – there is no easy way out for her. The only way to guarantee your pet dies in their sleep is with euthanasia. (more on natural death here).

Our pets give us unconditional love and affection. They bring comfort and tranquility to our lives. Our pets bring happiness and joy with very little expectations from us. And they are devoted and loyal companions to share our lives with. As their guardians, we as owners, owe it to them to relieve them of their suffering. When there is nothing left to do to make them feel or get better, its time. Giving the gift of eternal peace is the last act of love we can do for them. Death is the opposite of birth, it’s unavoidable. What we can do is make sure that their last moments with us are dignified, compassionate, and loving. That’s what Euthanasia does.

What to expect during the appointment?

  • Our goal is to make this as low-stress and easy as possible so you can have a peaceful goodbye.
  • We take care of the paperwork and payment up front so you don’t have to worry about that at the end. No one wants to think about those things after they have said goodbye.
  • You can set up wherever you would like to weather permitting.
  • A sedative is given to make your pet calm, comfortable, and cozy. I include a pain med as well. This injection is given in the muscle/or under the skin. They usually do well with it. This is to help ease your pet, you and your family, and help make everything run smoothly. It can take up to 10 minutes for the sedative to take affect but usually within a couple of minutes.
  • Once your pet is calm, comfortable, and cozy,  then the actual euthanasia solution is given into a vein or vascular space. This is usually in the back leg, so we are not in your way.  The euthanasia drug we use is literally an overdose of anesthesia.  This allows the pet to fall “asleep” first and allow their body to relax and shut down. This allows them to simply pass away. The euthanasia injection is usually pretty quick and smooth without any complications.

Your pets, our family.

It is an honor and a privilege that we get to help you and your pet through this transition of life and death. We are dedicated to making this process as easy as possible.
