Aftercare

Dignity & Respect from Beginning to the End

Cremation Options

If you want us to handle your pet’s aftercare, they will go either into a basket or placed on stretcher with a soft blanket over top. They are put into our vehicle gently and transported to our veterinarian’s home. There, your pet will carefully labeled and placed into  a cold-climate area until they are carefully picked up from our licensed crematory partner – Pet Memorial Cremation Services.
Private cremations When your pet reaches our veterinarian’s home, you and your pet’s information will be added into the crematory system by our veterinarian. This allows your pet to be tracked throughout the whole process. When they arrive at the crematory, they will be placed into a single crematory chamber for cremation. It will only be them and no other pets. When the cremation process is done, their ashes are put into an urn of your choice. A certificate of authenticity and a name plate are also included with the urn. See options below. The remains are then returned to your primary care veterinarian within 7-10 days. Additionally, they can be mailed to you via US postal service with tracking. *** urn options below are standard options. You may go to our crematory’s website –  to shop additional options. Please place order with our crematory for those additional urn options.

Communal cremations – Your pet is cremated with other pets by our licensed crematory.  Our crematory has partnered with Memorial Reefs International! as an endeavor to reduce our ecological paw print. Through this partnership, communally cremated remains will be built into artificial reef balls and respectfully placed on the ocean floor. Communal reef balls will be placed in areas that present the highest need of coral repair. If you have any questions about this process, click here for more information.

When families dedicate their pet’s cremated remains to the ocean, they enhance coral generation and marine biomass. Here at Eternal Pawprints we want you to know that your pet is taken care of with dignity and love throughout the whole process regardless of cremation choice.

Non - Cremation Options

If you would like to handle your own aftercare that is within your rights to do so and up to you. Below are a few options.

Home burial – please check with your local ordinances in regards to if it is legal to do so. We do NOT check NOR enforce this. Please research best practices for burials in your area. It is best to bury with biodegradable material to help facilitate decomposition. Additionally, you will want the site to be at least 3-5 feet deep to avoid wildlife from digging up your pet.

Local Pet Cemetery – You may want to bury your pet in a pet cemetery that is local to your area. Pet Haven at Highview in Fallston, MD and Baltimore Humane Society Memorial Park in Reisterstown, MD.

Local Cremation Options

Transport to crematory yourself – you may wish to transport your pet to your choice of crematory.  There, you can see your pet enter the crematory chamber and wait for the remains.

Viewing ceremony – you can choose to do this through us. Keep in mind Pet Memorial Services is in West Chester, PA. OR you may want to do this at a local crematory which you would arrange. A viewing ceremony is like a human wake service. You can also chose to see your pet enter the crematory chamber and wait for the remains. This is an extra service provided through the crematory with extra costs.

*** If you are interested in these types services, we recommend Pet Haven at Highview located in Fallston, MD.***
